Since there is no traditional leveling, how does a player progress through the game?

How does a player show off their progress?

It is important to have more for the player to do than just “complete traversal”. Going back into areas previously traversed should have a pay off.

Game Phases#

Near Field - Traversal preparation and proving#

This section could constitute around 30 minutes of game-time, near the beginning.

The player must hunt, and gather, the necessary materials to craft their own equipment required to traverse. Once they are well equipped, they will be capable of getting past the first part of the first traversal options.

Mid Field - Traversal Proving#

The player must prove that they are capable. As they move through this phase they gain access to new fields and new mobs.

Additional crafting recipes become available here. Players can practice their traversal skills and get better at them.

Full Field - Multi-Traversal#

In this phase, the player has the option and opportunity to explore freely, beyond the scope of their initial traversal.

Deep Field - Inward-Traversal#

The player has the option to traverse deeper into the world. Rather than surface level exploration. This is where the conclusion to the game is.
